Professor Newsom studied under John Strugnell and Frank Cross at Harvard University in the late 1970s, and edited, for her dissertation, an unpublished Dead Sea Scrolls text, Songs of the Sabbath Sacrifice, (initially published by Scholars Press in 1985; subsequently in DJD XI).  Another longstanding interest has been in the book of Job, reflected in the New Interpreter’s Bible Commentary (1996) and in the monograph the Book of Job: A Contest of Moral Imaginations (2003).
