Professor Bernd Schipper

Professor of Old Testament /Hebrew Bible at the Faculty of Theology, Humboldt University of Berlin

Professor Schipper has held positions at the Universities of Bremen (2002-2009), Heidelberg (2007), Oldenburg (2009) and Harvard 2013-2014). He was appointed as Professor at Humboldt University in Berlin in 2010. His research focuses on the history of Ancient Israel, the Book of Proverbs within ancient Near Eastern wisdom literature and the cultural connections between Egypt, Israel, and the Hebrew Bible. In 2021, Bernd Schipper received an ERC Advanced Grant of 2.5 MIO EUR for a research project ‘Demotic Egyptian Papyri and the Formation of the Hebrew Bible’. Professor Dr. Schipper is President of IOSOT (2022-2025) which will culminate in the next IOSOT Congress in Berlin from August 11-15, 2025.
