Apocalypse, popular from 3rd century – 2nd century BCE onwards, is a genre of revelatory literature written as a reflection of some social and historical circumstances.

The book of Daniel is the only book in the Hebrew Bible that contains fully developed apocalyptic literature. The oldest Jewish apocalypses are found in 1 Enoch, of which some portions date from the 3rd century BCE.
