David Shepherd writes about the upcoming joint meeting of OTW and SOTS:
As most of you know, the Society has a longstanding tradition of holding joint meetings with our Dutch-speaking colleagues from the Netherlands and Belgium (and occasionally South Africa). This year the joint meeting will be held at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, August 22-24, 2018.
The theme of the joint meeting is ‘Violence in the Hebrew Bible: Between Text and Reception’ and as you can see from the attached programme, SOTS will be well-represented with six members offering papers.
Because these meetings only come around every so often and because we will be joined on this occasion by our South African colleagues, we are hopeful that good numbers of SOTS members will make the trip, in which case please do consult the guidance below from our Dutch-speaking colleagues.
Hope to see you in Groningen and before that in Durham!
All best wishes,
In order to complete your registration, we kindly ask you to:
– pay the congress fee before 1 August 2018 (for details, see the Booking Form)
The Oudtestamentisch Werkgezelschap in Nederland en België and the Joint Meeting do not have a budget of their own. Accordingly, travel costs and accommodation are at your own expense. Nevertheless, we have been able to keep the congress fee low due to generous sponsorships by the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies, Groningen University, and the Theological Universities in Apeldoorn and Kampen.
With regard to accommodation, we arranged a discount for those attending the Joint Meeting 2018 at NH Hotels Groningen. For booking this or another Hotel or B&B, see the Booking Form. The number of reserved rooms will be gradually reduced by 1 June 2018; remaining reservations will be cancelled by 1 July.
We strongly recommend all those participating in the Joint Meeting 2018 to arrange accommodation before 1 June, because of the Festival Noorderslag in the city of Groningen, which starts at 23 August 2018.
We are looking forward to welcome you in Groningen for an inspiring conference!
